It is with great sadness that we announce the heartbreaking loss of a member of the MOYSC Family. One of our players, Zachary Eli Ramsey, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly in a tragic accident this summer.

This spring, Zach was bitten by the “baseball bug”, and played on the Braves 10U team. It was his first season, and he knew he had a lot of catching up to do. He went to every practice and game ready to work, and approached this challenge the same way he approached every challenge in his life—with a positive attitude, courage, and infectious enthusiasm. His dedication throughout the season paid off—he experienced tremendous growth and became a pretty good baller.

Zach’s insatiable quest to improve his game inspired his teammates to do the same, and fostered long-lasting, meaningful friendships in the process. Zach had a magical gift for making those around him feel special and cared for, and he loved his teammates and coaches with every ounce of his being. He was an old soul with a huge heart; a bright light that radiated kindness, love, and compassion. He lifted the spirits of his teammates who struck out, or were struggling on the mound, and even supported his coaches. He was an amazing friend to all.

In one short season, Zach made a huge impact on the MOYSC community. He was overwhelmingly selected by his teammates for the league’s Pride Award for his selfless dedication to the team, sportsmanship, tireless enthusiasm, and unwavering respect and absolute love for the game.

We have chosen to honor Zach by featuring his nickname, “Zachattack”, and his number, “4”, on this season’s uniforms. His vibrant spirit will live on through each and every player in the league. We know he will continue to look after the MOYSC community, and spread his magic. Let us cherish the invaluable lessons he unknowingly taught us: play baseball for the sheer joy of it, challenge ourselves and others to be our very best, be good to everyone, stay true to who we are, and enjoy life and live it to its fullest.

Wearing #4. Including Zach in the fall 2024 season at MOYSC

We at Manchaca Optimist Youth Sports Complex feel that while Zach only played for one  season with us at MOYSC it was enough for us to notice that he is exactly what we want the players at MOYSC to represent.  We would like to honor Zach by having his last at bat during the first pitch of every game (8U - 14U) played complex wide on this Saturday, Sept 16th.  We will have a pitch thrown with the batters box empty.

We have also reserved the number 4 for Zach this season so that every team within the complex can have him represented on their team, baseball and softball, 4U through 14U.  We hope that while this is a time for our community to support the Ramsey family we are also respectful of their privacy.
