Dear Manchaca Parents, Kids, and Families

After 7 years as Complex Director, I will be stepping down from the role and moving to a different role on the board.  My oldest daughter Madison has her last two years of high school and I am looking for more opportunities to spend time with her and my family.  I am not going anywhere I will still be coaching at MOYSC and will have a position on the MOYSC Board as Financial Director and Chairman of the Board.

Seven years ago I took over as Complex Director at Manchaca Optimist with the intent to turn the complex from a youth league to a family.  In my first season we had 400 kids at MOYSC and last season we had a record number of players at MOYSC of 1,200+.

My most significant accomplishment or feeling is realizing something you have created has reached out, resonated, and affected so many kids and families, possibly changing their love for the game and our community.

With that being said, this league has been far from a singlar endeavor and I want to thank the following individuals at Manchaca

  • Jennifer Fey (I will single her out) - The absolute rock of Manchaca.  Without Jennifer, we never would have gotten to the places we have gotten today.  She loves everyone in our community and is always the first person to raise her hand to help.  I want to personally thank her for her support, hard work, and friendship
  • Mark Kelnar
  • Talbert Bailey
  • Garrett Family
  • Chris Becker
  • Brett Curry
  • Robert Brown
  • John Fey
  • Bryan Moore
  • Justin Zook
  • Ashley Zook
  • Stephanie Stewart
  • Josh Armendariz
  • Greg Santiago
  • Larry Gawlik
  • Kyle Reed
  • Stephen Ferguson
  • Ralph Acosta
  • Ryan Webb
  • Jon Granberry
  • Aaron Garcia
  • Terry Lawrence
  • Manchaca Optimist Club
  • Colton Boothe
  • All the Coaches
  • And Countless others

Also a special thanks to my father Keith Covert.  He spent 30 years as a league President at Westside Little League in Fort Worth, TX.  He was always there for me to bounce ideas off and give me perspective on this role.

I love these guys and they've all been an integral and essential part of why the complex has grown the way it has.

Special thank you to my wife Sheilah and my two beautiful daughters Taylor and Madison.  Sheilah is the love of my life and the rock of our family.  Without her and her selflessness, I would not have had the opportunity to help as much as I did.

To my Manchaca parents and families, you are the absolute best.  You are an intense bunch that can drive me out of my mind, but you are the best.

The Manchaca journey is far from over and I will continue as a board member, coach, parent, and fan.  We are moving on to the next blank page of our journey.  This page has a lot of promises, possibilities, and adventures.  I turn that blank page to Bryan Moore the new MOYSC complex director and I will be there working with him to make it great, just like he did with me.

Thanks,

Jeremy Covert

BRYAN MOORE - NEW COMPLEX DIRECTOR

My name is Bryan Moore and I am very excited about the opportunity of getting to serve my Manchaca community, in this new role. I actually grew up right in front of the complex, right off of Bliss Spillar Rd. At that time, MOYSC was at its original location at Rex Kitchen Field where Akins High School is now. That is where I started my baseball career, in 1987. I played all the way from 6U through 14U at Manchaca. Spring ball, Fall ball, and AllStars. My older brother also played at MOYSC as a kid. My father coached us both, was an Optimist member, board member, commissioner and served as President during his time there. Needless to say, I grew up here.

My wife Kristy Moore, also grew up playing softball at Manchaca. She too, grew up in Manchaca and we both attended Manchaca Baptist Church, Menchaca Elementary school, and ate fried catfish every Friday night at the FireHall. Fast forward a couple (or few) decades, and we are loving that our kids are now getting the same opportunity we had as kids to play at MOYSC.

Our daughter Ady played T-Ball here, took a few seasons off for other extracurriculars and then came back in 2019 and is playing on the softball side. Our son Brody, started in 2015 (blast ball), and has been playing baseball ever since.

I started coaching in 2017, joined the board in 2018 and have been the 8U baseball commissioner since then. This is where I have had the pleasure of getting to know so many of y’all.

I now have the opportunity to pay it forward. To follow in the footsteps of many greats before me, it is an honor I will not take lightly. I have had the opportunity to work alongside some of the best in the business over this time. Thank you for your patience and trust.

My mission statement to our Manchaca Community is this,

I will continue to provide a safe, fun, and instructional environment for your children. I will work along side the best team of board members to ensure we do our part in teaching life lessons through baseball and softball, to the youth in this community. We will strive to make sure that all our kids are not just on a roster, but believe they are part of a team. Sportsmanship, teamwork and a desire for developing a love for all phases of the games of both baseball and softball, are the building blocks our coaches will use to guide our kids.

I cannot wait to get underway this fall season. It will be here before you know it. Online registration is coming in the next couple of weeks. We will hold two walk up registration days, Saturday 8/20 from 11 am-1 pm, and Wednesday 8/24 from 6 pm-8 pm. I can’t wait to see everyone.
